He was also a wrestling trainer in PA for many years . He was the self proclaimed Handicapped Ambassador of Las Vegas. As a regular on the strip, especially in the Fremont Street area, he entertained the tourists with his stories of the city he loved. He had many fans from all over the world. He was a hero to all but, mostly the children when he became Disco Santa. He put a smile on many a child’s precious face. He also loved animals and worked tirelessly for animal charities as well as children’s charities. His “over the top” personality made him a beloved character in the eyes of many.

He was so proud of all his accomplishments, but was most proud of his invention of the one handed guitar for the handicapped. His videos can be seen on YouTube under Disco Santa.

He was larger than life and his presence lit up the room when he entered.

He never let the fact that he was a stroke survivor (and had to rely on a power chair), stop him from making his dreams come true. He spent time talking with Roy of Sigfried and Roy. Just another one of his many friends.

God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be thine”. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Joseph L. Sullivan

After battling illness in the hospital for the last couple of months to be back with his family, Joseph Sullivan lost his fight on 9/1/2011 and passed peacefully with his family by his side. As a very loving husband, he had moved from Rotonda West, Florida, to Las Vegas, Nevada, to be with his oldest son, as he thought it would be best after the passing of his beloved wife Peggy. They had just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary together. He is survived by his two sons, David and Darren, a daughter, Ronnie, three natural grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn, Deidre Faith, David Joseph-Patrick, and also three adopted grand children, David Michael, Michelle Brinson, and Mackenzie Smith. He also had the sincere pleasure of having 11 great grandchildren, whom are Tyler, Makalah, Daniel, Brian, Alyson, Noah, Mayghen, Amanda, Allen, Megan, and Monica. Regretfully he was not able to have spent time with them all as he would have liked, but would never have traded anything in the world for them.

Joseph passed while in the ICU of Spring Valley Hospital, as he was with his eldest son, daughter, and grandson David at the time of his passing. He was very happy that he was able to see and spend time with his younger son Darren, grand daughter Deidre, and two  of his great grand children, Daniel and Brian as they had come out to spend their vacation holiday with him. Prior to that time, he had a wonderful time seeing three of his other great grand children, Alyson, Noah, and Mayghen, as they had chosen and were able to do, they spent a large part of the summer with him. Being the man that he was, Joseph would have given anything for his grand and great grand children, as he had done so many times and would have continued to do if they had needed it.

As that Joseph was born into the Catholic faith and converted to the Lutheran faith, for the happiness of his wife and to show his love, it was decided by his sons that he should be given the sacrament of the last rights. They were given to him on the Sunday prior to his passing and were given to him by Father Bill, of Christ The King Catholic Church here in Las Vegas. He was also in possession of a special Rosary given to him by his daughter Ronnie, that had come from the Vatican, and that had been blessed by Pope John Paul II prior to his death in April 2005. The Rosary beads had been made of rose petals and it was adorned with a replica of the Crozier (the crucifix) used by John Paul II. At the request of his daughter and sons, it will remain with Joseph throughout time everlasting.

Joseph had proudly served our country during the second world war as a member of the United States Marine Corp. Being that he had a joy of comrades and the friendships that he had established throughout the years, after retiring from the US Treasury Department, Joseph and Peggy had decided to move from their home in Waldorf, Maryland, to Rotonda West, Florida and there he became a member of the Rotonda Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He had hoped to renew his membership with the local lodges in Las Vegas, but had never had the opportunity to do so.

At his request, Joseph will be cremated and will be placed together with his beloved wife Peggy where together they will spend the rest of days. There will be a private memorial service held at a date to be set at a later time. Any further information may be requested from his sons and they may be contacted by email through redcanyonmedia@gmail.com or through LaPaloma Funeral Services.

FOR OUR FATHER;

I am not there, I do not sleep. Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight,

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there, because in you, I did not die.

Dad, we all love you and you will always live and stay with us within our hearts until we join you again in heaven.
