Vernon Richard George, 88, of Las Vegas died peacefully at Nathan Adelson Hospice on March 5, 2015. He was born May 28, 1926 in Winnemucca, NV to Jesse and Louise Liotard George, two siblings Virginia and Gary.  State Track champion known as “Spider”, he graduated Elko High in1942 then attended Utah State University. He married Barbara Rackham in 1947 (div) and had two children, Ronald and Jenene; and Frances Carruth in 1972 (div), and had two children, Ryan and Brittany. Vern’s hotel career began in Elko at the Ranch Inn and Commercial Hotel, and later moved his family to Las Vegas, where he helped to open the Fremont Hotel.  He worked front desk and management at the El Rancho Vegas, Dunes, Flamingo, Thunderbird, and Castaways, eventually retiring from the Circus Circus. He grew up working on a ranch and was forever a cowboy.  He was an Army Korean War Veteran and member of the BPOE, as well as a lifetime member of the Las Vegas Jaycees. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother, son (Ryan) and grandson (Ian). He is survived by his son Ron (Gaylene), daughter Jenene (Jon) Boardman, daughter Brittany, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and fiancé MaryAnn Lewis.
