Longtime Sparks resident, Frances Gabriel, 88, passed away suddenly at home on October 4, 2018. She was born in Chicago, IL to Elizabeth (Frech) and William Hoffmann on May 4, 1930, the second of four children. She married the love of her life, Anthony (Tony) Gabriel on May 21, 1955 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Chicago and they were blessed with their first two children, son, John, and daughter, Cynthia. In 1958, they moved to Sparks, NV to enable Tony to go into the slot machine business. Shortly after moving here, they welcomed another daughter, Cathleen. Fran spent the next several years being a stay-at-home mom. When she finally rejoined the work force, she joined a new manufacturing company, Sea  & Ski as their accountant and took retirement when the parent company, Smith-Kline, closed the plant. After that, she worked in various fields, including a Reno Elevator company, and at Reno Air as the store manager for the employee company store. 
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Anthony Gabriel; her older brother, Richard Hoffmann and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Hoffmann; her younger brother, William Hoffmann Jr. and her son, John Gabriel. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Gabriel of Reno, NV, Cathy Gabriel of Sparks, NV; granddaughter, Krysti Gabriel-Smith (Jason Smith); great granddaughter, Lilyclaire Smith and her sister, Joan Thomassy of Lacey, WA. A funeral mass will be held at the Chapel at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery at 1pm on Thursday, October 25th. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or a charity of your choice.
