Charles Nastasi
Charles Nastasi December 12, 1927 – December 22, 2018
Charlie passed away December 22, 2018 at the age of 91 survived by his wife Nancy, son Michael and wife Coleen Nastasi, daughter Carol Mayer and her husband Michael, and four grandchildren, Cory and Kelsi Nastasi and Christopher and Katherine Mayer.
Charlie grew up in Bellmore, Long Island, New York and worked in the family barber shop with his brother Sam after serving in the Occupational Army forces in Japan after World War II. He then earned a degree in Business Administration at Hofstra University on Long Island. He and Nancy just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary, marrying in 1955.
During the 1960’s Charlie gained employment with Grumman Aerospace as a Procurement Manager which led him to a short stint in Iran where he often recounted his thrill of shaking the hands of the then Shah of Iran. More recently was the thrill of the Laying of the Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C, a trip made possible this past October by the Honor Flight Program for Veterans. After his stint in Iran, he and his family were relocated to the Grumman Office in Southern California.
Charlie, who was noted for his wonderful smile, was a devoted husband and family man who loved spending time especially with the grandchildren who he was blessed to see grow to adulthood.
He and Nancy enjoyed exploring new places and playing tour guide to all of the many out of state visitors staying with them. All of these trips he videoed creating unforgettable film well ahead of today’s You Tube.
At home Charlie and Nancy enjoyed watching movies of the Golden Era of Film Musicals starring either Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire and seeing when in season, his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees play. Needless to say, Bingo once or twice a week added to his social calendar where he met so many wonderful people.
Charlie will be remembered not only for his wonderful smile, but as a caring person with a great sense of humor that cheered all who came in contact with him. He is deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
A service will be held at 8 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada 89005 followed by internment.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his memory either to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Las Vegas or the Honor Flight Program for Veterans of Southern Nevada.
