Cornelis (Corry) Johannes Welling
Cornelis (Corry) Johannes Welling passed away on July 18, 2017 in Sparks, Nevada at the age of 91. Corry was born on June 30, 1926 in Wassenaar, South Holland, the Netherlands. He served in the Royal Dutch Air Force and was stationed in Indonesia. Corry immigrated to the United States in 1952 and married Elisabeth deRonde in March of 1952 in Mesa, AZ. They left AZ for southern Calif. where he spent 20 some years. He had a long standing and successful career culminating as a Manager with Hughes Helicopters (later McDonnell Douglas). Corry married Charleen Vernelle Garn on June 30, 1973 in Las Vegas, NV. They resided in Southern Calif., Arizona, and lastly Sparks, Nevada for the past 16 years. Cornelis is survived by his wife Charleen of Sparks, NV; his brother Martin of Queen Creek, AZ; three sons, Robert Kenneth of Fredericksburg, VA; Martin Ray of Washington, UT; Donald Edward of Corona, CA; daughter, Hendrina J. Dr Roos of the Netherlands; step-daughter, Susan M. Spring-Wenzel of Placerville, CA; step-sons, Dan L. Spring of Buhl, ID; and Tommy W. Filler of Mesa, AZ. In total, Corry has 19 grand children and 26 great-grand children. Corry was an avid gardener who skillfully intermixed colorful residential landscapes incorporating flowers, vegetables, greenhouses, water features, fish ponds and fruit trees. He also enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, outdoor habitats, and decorative trellises. A memorial service is scheduled for 11am at the Highland Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 570 East 4th Ave., Sun Valley, NV. Bishop Dale Moss will officiate the memorial.
