Ernest Howard Jones

On February 4, 2023, Ernest Howard Jones of Reno, Nevada passed away at the age of 75 due to Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer, which he had been diagnosed with October 18, 2022.

Ernest was born to James and Edith Jones, in July of 1947, in Athens, Tennessee. As a child, Ernest moved to Bakersfield, California with his family. He was in the Boy Scouts of America, enjoyed gymnastics, and could also walk on stilts with ease. He was drafted to serve in the Army for two years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the United States, Ernest took up the profession of slot technician, from which he retired, and spent most of his adult life in Nevada. He had also spent several years as a carpenter building houses and casino furniture. He enjoyed working with his hands and could usually be found tinkering on his vehicle. He also enjoyed lifting weights, and during the last year of his life had 15 inch upper arms.

Ernest was preceded in death by his brother Gary on December 17, 2022. He is survived by his siblings: Loyd, Martha, and David; his children Shamarie, Jimmy, and Douglas; his grandchildren: Jenessa, Jennifer, Jessica, Rayden, and Rylee; and his great-grandchildren: Karsynn, Boe and Fisher.

Services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, 310 W. 2nd St., Reno, NV 89503 at 10:30 AM, with burial to follow at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, Fernley, NV 89408 with military honors.
