Grant Howard Nielson

Grant Howard Nielson passed away in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Grant was born in Bakersfield, California on November 9, 1963 to Evelyn Sue and Tracy Frances Nielson. The older brother of Christine and Randy, Grant spent his childhood and young adult years in Bakersfield and graduated from North High. He served as a missionary in Columbus, Ohio, and returned to Bakersfield where her met Terri and Sherri Terrell and Shane Reno. Grant fell in love with Terri and they married on December 9, 1985.

Grant and Terri soon moved to San Luis Obispo County and settled in Paso Robles. Grant graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and went to work for the Private Industry Council. Their daughter Hanna joined them in October of 1996 and they were soon sealed as an eternal family in the Los Angeles California Temple.

They moved to Reno in 2010 where Grant worked for the State of Nevada Employment Development department as a section chief.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tracy and Evelyn. He is survived by his wife Terri, his daughter Hanna, his siblings Chistine Cutler and Randy Nielson (Kristin), and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 29th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2050 Robb Drive, Reno, NV).

It is impossible to describe the effect Grant has had on each of us. He was the perfect mix of mischief and responsibility, of humor and compassion, of work and play, of smiles and tears, of truth and tact. He gave sage advice without condescending. He was the big brother that everyone wanted and needed. The world is a lesser place without him in it, and we will miss him dearly!
