With heavy hearts and a torrent river of tears my family and I would like to inform all extended family and friends of my Son Issachar Laa’lanikuakaa Akaka, passing on July 20, 2014 at a tender age of 18.  Issachar grew up on the island of Lanai. He loved learning how to play several instruments, the ukulele, guitar, piano, Tahitian drums, and drums.  He wrote his own music and sang.  Issachar was so good at cutting hair, he would cut his own using my hand held mirror to line up perfectly. Issachar loved making us laugh with his comedy acts and dancing. He could draw beautifully that the Lanai High School has used his drawing of their Mascot for banners and t-shirts.   As he said ” The most handsomest son of them all and the most accomplished” yes he is and precious to each and every one of us!   Mother Donnell LumLung Akaka, Father Bernard Akaka, sister Shawnnell Alonso son Kaleikaumaka , sister Kyley Akaka daughter Paige sons Dicen and Kaime, sister Brelei-Maa Akaka and daughters Lahela and Mahina, brother, Isaiah and daughters Alejalani and Alena, brother Elijah Akaka, survive him.

Aunty Elizabeth and Uncle Felipe Magaoay would like to say that Issachar when growing up on the island of Lanai a small community that know everyone, she is sure many feel the loss and their love goes out to all. Aunty says he loved hanging out with his friends going to the beach and fishing with his uncle trying to catch the big “Ulua”. It seemed there was never enough food in the house for the growing kids, they love uncle’s desserts. Raised as one of Jehovah’s witnesses, Issachar knows about Gods Kingdom and the promise of an earthly paradise with the hope of the resurrection (Job 14: 14, 15). His favorite teacher was Miss Brindo, she put a twinkle in his eye where he felt he could accomplish anything. He learned how to play piano from Mrs Oshima which enhance his natural ability for music.

  • Issachar: Such a beautiful young man; not just physically, but in every other way that counts. Including Personality and Amazing Natural Talent. From your description of him, I feel that I know him. I wish that I had known him. But it is not too late; thanks to our God Jehovah and our King Jesus Christ, we will have the opportunity to welcome Issachar back – alive and well to a world that won’t have violence, pain or death. While he is sleeping, we can look forward to welcoming him back to Paradise. “Praise Jah!” Please Donnell and The Akaka Family, take good care of yourselves and keep thinking of the day you will see Issachar again. That is my sincere prayer for you.

    Truly,

Your Sister & Friend Forever, Gwen
