Johanna Bowen

On Sept. 4, 2022 Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, Sister and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 86.

Johanna was born Jan 28, 1936 to Emma and Lou Guida in Corona, New York.

She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Gallagher of Bountiful, UT (Kelly).

Diana Van of Las Vegas, NV (Michael), brother Dominick Guida and nephew Dominic Copeland (Aimee). Preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and daughter Janet Doyle of Reno, NV (Jim)

Johanna has left behind 9 grandchildren,17 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson whom she adored and loved to be around, as well as many others whom she considered her family.

She grew up in New York in a very large Italian family whom she loved very much. She married and moved to Southern CA with her husband at the time, James Mangano, and her 2 young daughters. After a year her 3rd daughter was born.

Johanna remarried in 1962 to Eugene Bowen, moved with her 3 girls to Huntington Beach, CA where she  lived in the same home for the next 53 years.

Her family’s fondest memories are all of the trips to CA to visit with her, go to the beach, play cards, go fishing, watching movies and eating the good food she would make. There was always something delicious cooking on her stove.

Due to health concerns she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in Feb of 2015 with her daughter and son in law to live out the remainder of her days surrounded by her family…

My deepest condolences to all of you with the loss your beloved, my cousin Johanna.
I have not seen her since she moved to California many many years ago.
I have many fond memories seeing her and cousin Dominic at Aunt Emma & Uncle Lou’s house in Hicksville.
We lived a few blocks away after leaving Corona , Queens NY where Grandma & Grandpa Guida lived.
I grew up in their house till 12 years of age ,and then followed uncle Lou to Hicksville.
We saw them often there and always at all our wonderful holidays and regular Sunday dinners at grandmas in Corona and Whitestone .
All that great food and fun with all our cousins and great aunts and uncles
We loved each other very much and that to this day puts a smile on my face and warms my heart with all those memories.
Making wine in the cellar with everyone was one memorable occasion that was so much with all
I could go on and on about our large family and how fortunate we all were to have each other.
My memories of Johanna will always be with me …. Much love & may she Rest In Peace .
Love & Blessings to you all
    Cousin Anthony & Kathryn Petritis

I am so saddened to hear of JoAnne’s passing. I have fond memories of the summer I spent with JoAnn and Gene. She was a gracious lady who will be missed. My prayers are with you all as you deal with the grief of losing your Mom. Love, Tammy
