Joseph Alphonso Washington, Jr.

Born (Sunrise) – April 5, 1935 in Henryetta, Oklahoma.

Passing (Sunset) – November 30th, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Joseph Alphonso Washington, Jr. born on April 5, 1935 in OK , the youngest of seven children  to  Joseph A. Washington, Sr. and Lucy Roberts.  During High School, he met his future wife, Essie Myrl.  They were true sweethearts.  After graduating high school in 1954, he went directly into the United States Air Force to serve his country.  A few years later, he married Essie in Amarillo, Texas on August 25, 1958.  They had three children.

He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for over 20-years, which included tours in Japan, Germany,  Alaska and deployments in support of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  During his career, he was a cyber-security pioneer, providing our nation vital signal and i collection intelligence.  He later became a missile instructor and led training for keypunch-cards  in computer programing.

Upon retiring from the Air Force, Joe Washington became an entrepreneur, starting a few businesses and working in various professions while growing his real estate business.  He bought and sold many homes in the Las Vegas areas, finally retiring from Century 21 Real Estate early in 2022.  Joe stayed busy, and seemed to have more than twenty-four hours in his day because despite dedicating so much to his profession of choice, his unwavering service was reserved for his family.  He always had the right words for the occasion, the right tool for the obstacle, and would roll up his sleeves to right a situation.  Joe was known for always making you smile.  His story telling could make you laugh, while making you appreciate all that comes in life.  His family meant everything to him and in turn, he worked hard with his wife to ensure their houses were always homes.  Joseph was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity.  He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone due to his positive energy.  Joseph had incredible patience, and always made time to help others.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Essie Myrl, son, Joseph Washington, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members.  He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Cherita James Washington and son, Patrick Washington.

His final resting place is the Sothern Nevada Veterans Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV, 89005.
