Karen Rae Hunter
Daughter, Sister, Warrior, Survivor, Mom
Lifetime Reno resident, Karen Rae Hunter, born November 17, 1943 at St. Mary’s Hospital passed suddenly in her home on February 27, 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Hollie Hunter – Cameron (Darrin); her sister, Ramona Hunter- Townsend (Bohm); her brother, Jim Hunter (Jane), and three nieces and a nephew. Karen was preceded in death by her father, James Rae Hunter; mother, Clothilde Hunter; and older brother, Robert Hunter.
Karen graduated from Reno High School (1961) and attended the University of Nevada. Karen’s career spanned many years in the local insurance industry including some time as the President of the Insurance Women of Reno. After building a successful career and raising Hollie, as a single parent, to be responsible young woman, which she felt was one of her greatest accomplishments; Karen retired from insurance and continued working as a bookkeeper at a small gaming manufacturer in Reno until she fully retired in 2008. After retiring, Karen spent much of her time with family.
She was her sister’s hero because no matter what struggle she was faced with in life, Karen never gave up. All who knew her will miss her grace, sparkle, sense of humor, and most importantly – her fierce love for her family.
