Kathleen Ann Eckart

Kathleen Ann Eckart (Kathy) passed away on January 27, 2022, in Reno, Nevada. She was born on December 28, 1945, in Vallejo, California to the late Joseph and Ilse Meyer. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Kathy attended college at Truckee Meadows Community College where she earned her degree in nursing.  Kathy worked for the VA Hospital in Reno, Nevada as a Registered Nurse and retired with them. Kathy loved working with our country’s veterans and making a difference in their lives as well as their families. Kathy was a member of Father’s Heart and supported Hope Homes in India. In addition, Kathy was active in the Jail Ministry in Reno, Nevada and ministered to those incarcerated for over 20 years. Kathy’s heart was to help all, and she touched so many people. Kathy went on several mission trips, to help the widows and orphans. When not working, Kathy was an amazing seamstress and spent time making dresses to send to Africa for the orphans.

Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ilse Meyer and sister, Maureen Nino.

Kathy is survived by her sister, Anita Smith; brother Matthew Meyer; her three children, Michael Wickizer, Laura Paul (Fred) and Jerry Eckart; her five grandchildren, Melissa Paul (Tommy), Jeremy Wickizer, Lacie Kelly (Dalton), Gage Gunzburg (Brittany), and Amy Phillips; three great grandchildren, William Sullivan, Skyler Sullivan, and Brielle Border; her beloved dog Mandy (Jazzy), her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

The past several months held many challenges for Kathy. Her family deeply appreciates the remarkable and compassionate care provided to her by the staff at Vista Adult Care and Eden Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at La Paloma Funeral Services at 5301 Longley Lane, Suite E, Reno, Nevada. The family would like to invite you to a gathering following the Celebration of Life at 7412 Celeste Drive, Reno, Nevada.
