Kay Diann Young, 75, of Sparks Nevada, formerly of Arroyo Grande, California, died peacefully on July 10th in Spanish Springs, Nevada after a long illness.
Born May 17, 1940 in Los Angeles, California she was the daughter of Francis “Kirk” Kirkpatrick and Adah Kirkpatrick. She attended Arroyo Grande High School, graduating in 1958 and attended colleges in San Luis Obispo and San Diego, California. She was a former teacher, a former business owner, was a Certified Master Gardener, and a member of the National Geranium Society. She was a 50-year member and a former Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star (Arroyo Grande California area Chapter). She was a former volunteer docent with the Nature Conservancy and involved in many volunteer activities with church and community. She was an accomplished embroiderer, and designed and created many hand stitched compositions she loved nature and all its beauty and enjoyed reading creating hand stitcheries, gardening, and her family, friends and beloved pets.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Ralph Young, her daughter Kim and her husband Ian; her three grandchildren, Karen, Christopher and Katherine; and her great-granddaughter Ava. She is predeceased by her parents Kirk and Adah, and by her son, Kirk William Young.
Funeral arrangements are begin handled by La Paloma Funeral Services of Reno, Nevada. Memorial services are planned to be held in Arroyo Grande, California in September.
Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to Cascades of Spanish Springs Nevada and Gentiva Hospice of Reno Nevada. Kay will remain in their hearts forever.
