Kenneth Leon Hawley
Kenneth (Leon) Hawley, 79, passed away on March 5, 2015 at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks, Nevada with family by his side (after many years of struggle with COPD.)
He was born October 15, 1935 in Annabella, Utah to Kenneth and Cleone Hawley, who preceded him in death.
He leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Sylvia, children Michael, Brenda (Scott), Janene (Shawn), Carrie and Kenneth J.; grandchildren Elena (Christopher), Stephanie (Corey), Holly, Sara, Justin and Cody; great-granddaughter Izabelle; step-children Kathy, Dennis, Lani, Dean, Jill and Darren, and numerous step grandchildren; sister Louise Bechtel (Verl), brother Herb (Connie), sister in-law Carol and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert and two infant sons, Kenneth L. and Steven Craig. Tuffy, his faithful four- legged friend, who passed away April 26, 2003, will be laid to rest with him.
He enjoyed baseball in his youth, where he excelled as a pitcher. He continued to
enjoy watching baseball throughout his life with family and friends.
Kenneth joined the Air Force on November 19, 1954 and attained the rank of
Airman First Class (AllC). His basic training was at Scott Air Force Base in
Illinois. He then was stationed in Tule, Greenland and California as a Ground
Radio Repairman. While enlisted he received a Good Conduct Medal.
Kenneth moved to Reno, Nevada in the mid 70’s and from there he owned,
managed and operated a shell service station. He moved to Arizona, Idaho, and
Montana having similar success. After returning to Reno, Kenneth enjoyed
working and delivering auto parts for various part stores.
Service will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Northern Nevada
Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, Fernley, Nevada.
