LJUBIÇA “UBIE” PINJUV DILTZ

Ljubiça “Ubie” Pinjuv Diltz, 94, died December 29, 2021, in Las Vegas.  Born in Los Angeles, October 20, 1927, to Ivan and Ana Pinjuv, she was sixth of seven children. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1930 and Ubie graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1945.  At age 16, she went to work for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. At the Flamingo Hotel, she memorized phone numbers and made connections so quickly she was designated “Fastest Switcher in the West.” Ubie loved horses and each weekend drove to her sister’s ranch in Central Nevada to help with cattle roundups.  She retired from the telephone company in 1990 and moved to Florida to her niece’s horse-racing farm: exercising the horses by running them through orange groves and swimming them in the lake. She returned to Las Vegas in 2015 for her 70th class reunion. Always adventurous, Ubie parasailed, skydived, and at age 91 gathered four generations of her family for a hot air balloon ride. Ubie was preceded in death by her daughter Debbie and is survived by her daughter Brenda Shackelton (Dale), her sister Evelina Dunton, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
