Akintunde Toye Oginga Obituary (1973 - 2015)

Akintunde Toye Oginga, age 41, was born on September 20, 1973 in Denver, Colorado. On January 9, 2015, Akintunde left our lives and returned to our Savior Jesus Christ from his Las Vegas, Nevada home. Akin was the sole beloved child of his parents Niambi and Oyedele Oginga, but had brothers and sisters aka “the crew”. These “siblings” have been and will always be held in the heart of Akin and in the highest regards of his wife, children, parents, family, and friends. Akintunde attended George Washington High School in Denver, Colorado, where he will be remembered for excellence in JROTC/Drill programs. On June 3, 1991, Cadet Major Akin Completed 4 years of military training and was recommended for advance placement into any military service and/or senior ROTC program. Following bringing home numerous awards and trophies for GW in this area, Akin received a high school diploma from George Washinton in 1991. Akin carried this military prowess into the United States Navy by enlisting for active duty in 1993. As a Seaman Specialist aboard the USS Duluth, Akin received many accolades: National defense service medal, armed forces expeditionary medal, sea service deployment ribbon, navy good conduct medal, navy battle efficiency award, meritorious unit commendation award, sharp shooter pistol ribbon, and expert rifle medal. He served 4 years in the United States Navy and completed several overseas tours. In 1997, Akin was honorably discharged and transferred to inactive naval reserve status. Upon leaving the Navy, he attended Cambridge College where he received certification as a radiology technician and medical assistant. Akin was gainfully employed in the area of radiology for 17 years. He mastered a position of radiology supervisor and studied for a degree of ARRT with Pima Medical. Never able to detach from his military background, Akin re enlisted for active naval serve in 2000. He received a honorable discharge in 2007. Rounding out his uber successful life, Akintunde married January 2, 2002. He has been the irreplaceable love of wife Belinda and respected patriarch of children Darius and Daynah for the last 13 years. In his life span, Akin enjoyed tennis, swimming, and excelled in bowling. He was an award winner in all areas, but was able to boast of 3 perfect score games in bowling. These achievements, he enjoyed sharing with life long best friend/team mate James Polk, wife, children, parents, and friends.
