Enedino T. Mendoza Obituary (1919 - 2018)

Enedino T. Mendoza, after a very long and full life passed away on October 11, 2018. Born in February 24, 1919, in Mexico he first came to the US in December, 1943, as part of the Brasero program to provide farm labor during WWII. He continued as part of the Brasero program after the war. He then joined Union Pacific Railroad, working as a rail road laborer, until his retirement in 1986. Always through his life, he valued learning and made friends easily, being willing to strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He had friends all through Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Mexico. In 1998, he become a US citizen, and he used his love of learning to learn more about US history, visiting museums all over the country. He was always reading. If some people’s motto now is always be selling, his could be said to have been always be learning. His drive allowed him to continue to be active and walk miles, maintaining a level of fitness that was truly rare and awe inspiring. Keeping up with him as he walked the Halls of the Smithsonian Museums was not for the faint hearted or out of shape. In fact we fully expected him to reach 100 years and beyond. Sadly, this was not to be since a fall caused his rapid decline in health. He passed after prayers in his Catholic faith, surrounded by family and friends who loved him, and after those few who hadn’t been able to make the trip, called and said their good byes. He is survived by his many daughters, and grandchildren, and great grand-children. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and were made the better for that acquaintance. Some day the pain of his loss will start to recede, but his memory and the example he set will not. The funeral will be on 18 October 2018 at St Peter’s on Boulder Highway in Henderson. Viewing/eulogy will be at 0900 with a full mass at 1000. A small repast will follow at St. Peter’s annex located next to the church.
