G. Vance Cartee Obituary (1942 - 2014)

G. Vance Cartee, age 71 Former Nevada resident Vance Cartee, 71, died February 25, 2014, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. At his request, no service will be held. Mr. Cartee was born November 14, 1942, on the banks of the Bayou La Fourche in Thibodaux, Louisiana, to Vance Kimmons Cartee and Beatrice Rose Cartee. He was the eldest of two children. Vance was raised in a little town called Kirbyville in East Texas. His heart, his soul and his character were deeply influenced by his Texas roots. As a young man, he played football for Kirbyville High, the saxophone in the band and was a top-ranked academian and member of the debate team. Upon graduation he left home to attend college at the University of Texas and later joined the US Air force boot strap program. Following his military tour of duty, Vance’s work as an electrical engineering contractor for the United States government, took him to Vietnam and Thailand. Upon returning to the states, Vance joined the corporate world where he spent over 25 years in Executive Sales and Management positions for a number of telecommunication’s leading companies. As an entrepreneur, he was involved with the breakup of the Bell System, the development of the new long distance business and the construction of the fiber optic and cellular networks systems. His last project was managing the development of the Jersey Turnpike’s intelligent highway system in the New Jersey/Philadelphia area. He was a man of many talents and interests. Having driven race cars as a youth, he loved performance cars. He also enjoyed boating and fishing. His personal library consisted of over 1,000 books which he avaricely read. He loved his work and the people that worked with him and formed long lasting alliances and friendships over the years which withstood the passing of time. He was a people watcher, a scholar of human nature. He lived life often on the edge anticipating the adventure of the deal and the reward for taking risk. Most of all he loved his wife. Retiring in Las Vegas with his wife and life partner in 2001, he enjoyed the 24 hour excitement and fun that his new home had to offer. He is survived by his wife Mary, of 33 years, his children and his only brother. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
