James Bruce Henrie, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and brother passed away on June 17, 2024, peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada following many visits by his loving family. He was born on a farm in Joseph, Utah, on May 28, 1936, to parents Maxine Anderson and James Ercil Henrie.
He graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1955 and later Bruce pursued higher education at UNLV, where he earned his degree in engineering in 1971. That year, he was one of only two students to pass the state engineering exam on the first attempt. Never the less, he continued to work with the freight delivery as an independent contractor so he had lot of driving time for pondering life’s mysteries. As he neared the end of his life and lost his ability to drive, he would often dream about driving along the streets– traveled so many times. He and his brother Terry spent much time monitoring the construction of the bridge at the Boulder dam.
Bruce led a life rich in service and accomplishment. He dedicated many years serving in various capacities in his church, including as an Elder, Seventy, High Priest, Stake Missionary, Counselor in three Bishoprics, and Sunday School Presidency. His passion for missionary work extended beyond his formal roles, influencing countless lives through his kindness and dedication.
Bruce had a zest for life and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren– often dreaming and envisioning new possibilities.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Terry Henrie and Sunny Konold; sons: Glen Ercil and Spencer Van Pelt. He is survived in life by his wife LaDona Edwards, sons: Craig, Cal, Cameron and Steven; daughter Gina Van Pelt; siblings: Don Henrie and Nyla Leavitt, twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith.
