James Singer

–

Pahrump, Nevada

Singer, as he preferred to be called, had a passion for life which was reflected in his adventurous spirit and love of country. He was an avid learner. He loved learning new languages and then finding people with whom he could talk. He was a master of and quick study not only in foreign languages but in sarcastic wit. Oddly enough, the military said he could not be a linguist. Language went beyond the spoken word in his life’s work with computers. Computers and technology were an integral part of his life. His children fondly remember him in the basement building his own computer at a time when most people were still using a typewriter. He was thrilled when AI began providing additional clues to his quest for knowledge. He also very much enjoyed activities that fed his need for an adrenaline rush; favorites included – flying, repelling, electric scooters, skiing, snowboarding, roller coasters, and pigeon hunting to name a few.

Singer always said the military took him around the world but his need to learn and explore fueled his love of travel. He explored every continent but one over the course of his life - only Antarctica remained on his bucket list. In Kaye he found a travel partner to share his thirst for adventure. They traveled the United States in their RV as much for the adventure as to escape the Nevada summers. When the opportunity presented itself they flew to foreign lands he loved and wanted her to experience. They also shared a mutual love for art and photography. Singer had a unique way of looking at the small things from pond scum to food on the dinner plate. The interest in pond scum resulted in an award winning picture of which he was extremely proud. Singer loved photography but preferred to be in the background rather than the subject. No matter the location he made sure to take a “shadow” picture. He got joy from sharing the most unusual pictures.

At the top of Singer’s life accomplishments was the fact that he was a pilot and flight instructor. He kept his flight instructor training and pilot’s license current. More recently, his love of aeronautics transitioned to flying drones.

Singer was in management at the phone company in Omaha for most of his career. Prior to that he served his country in the United States Air Force. He shared many of his adventures in the last year with other veterans he met at the Fisher House in Las Vegas. He offered compassion, wisdom, and a steady presence to all who knew him. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit always developing ideas to capitalize on both his and Kaye’s skills.

Singer met Kaye, the love of his life, at a dance studio and together they built a life rich with love, laughter, adventure and quiet loyalty that anchored their marriage. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and was always there to celebrate their major achievements. He admired both of his children for making the choice to also serve their country as members of the Army. Singer and Kaye also welcomed two of Andrea’s close friends, Elaf and Alicia, into their life and Singer lovingly called them his, “other daughters.”

Singer’s memory will be cherished by his wife Kathryn (aka Kaye), daughter Andrea (aka Andie), son Eric (April), Granddaughter Chloe (Adam), Grandson’s Caleb & Joshua, sister Judith Gaskin along with “other daughters” Elaf and Alicia, great grandson River, nieces, nephews and their families, Iowa relatives and countless friends he made over the years.

He peacefully made his last flight on January 9, 2026 with Kaye by his side. Interment will be at the Omaha National Cemetery, Nebraska with military honors. Singer will be deeply missed but his spirit will remain forever present in the hearts of those who loved him.
