John Robert Bateman

John Robert Bateman passed away on October 15, 2026 in Reno, succumbing to cancer. John was born to Hal and Marcy Bateman on May 20, 1965, in Dallas, Texas, oldest of their three boys. He grew up in Lubbock and received his undergraduate degree from Southwestern University as well as a masters degree in finance from Texas State University.

A long time Reno resident, John was active in St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. John was an intelligent and resilient individual who lived a life filled with unique experiences. His travels took him across the world, where he started a family. He found joy in taking walks, caring for his peach tree, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and attending church. Above all, he will be remembered for the love and support he gave his family.

John is survived by his daughter Ann Bateman of Houston, and by his brothers Jim Bateman of Austin and Ben Bateman of Amarillo, and their families, and by his aunt, Sally Hansen of Dallas. John’s burial is Wednesday, October 21, at 10 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery.
