Leroy “Lee” Hutchins December 20, 1930- January 16, 2016 A lifelong sportsman and outdoor enthusiast, Lee participated in skiing, hiking, longbow archery, sports car racing and fishing. Later in life, he pursued a passion for golf: golfing the military courses at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, DC, Mamala Bay, Ko Olina and Barbers Point in Hawaii and the Navy course located in Reno where most summer afternoons he could be seen playing twilight golf. For many years, Lee served as a volunteer for the Reno Tahoe Open (now the Barracuda), a PGA sanctioned event held at the breathtaking Montreux Golf Course. A 30-year veteran of the armed services, Lee enlisted in the Army Air Corps at age 16 and fought in World War II, serving during the Korean War and Vietnam era conflicts as a member of the United States Air Force. When stationed in France, he was a member of the Air Force ski team, competing in events throughout Europe. Following his retirement from active duty, Lee worked for the US Army at bases in Germany and Korea. His loving wife, Mary Shannon Hutchins, survives Lee. His son, Robert Hutchins and daughter Sherry Cho of Sandy, Utah and his grandchildren Enrique, Alexis and Annie also survive him. A memorial service will be held May 23 at 2 PM at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernley, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Audubon Society or the USO in Lee’s memory.
