Melissa Mae Jones

December 14, 1939 to October 14, 2026

December 14, 1939, was a great day!  On that day Melissa was born in Hope, New Mexico.  She was fond of saying “I was born in hope and raised in despair.”  When she was young her family moved to Artesia, NM.  She graduated from Artesia High School.  In 1964 Melissa moved to Las Vegas and went to work for Reynolds Electrical and Engineering (REECO) at the Nevada Test Site.  At the Site she was one of the first two women to work in the forward area.  Even though it was a large construction site in those days women were required to wear dresses and heels.  She often joked about how she conned the construction guys into pouring a concrete sidewalk to the porta potty. She continued to work for REECO, moving up through the Administrative ranks until she retired in 1995 as the REECO DOE Compliance Officer.  Also, in 1995 she married the love of her life, Ed Baur.  Together they had a happy life sharing many adventures, cruises, vacations, etc. Melissa was predeceased by the following: her parents Bill and Lola Jones; her siblings Zona Hazle, Ray Jones and his wife Joyce, Dolph Jones and his wife Ann; and her sisters-in-law Sharon Jones and Nancy Jones. She is survived by her brothers Floyd Jones and Robert Jones and her husband Ed Baur.  Today the world is missing an adventurous soul and a kindhearted loving person.  Go in peace Melissa.
