North Las Vegas, Nevada
Virginia Rose Johnson, 81, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Virginia was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 19, 1944, to Willie J. Johnson and Dorothy Taylor Johnson. She was the oldest of four siblings — Dorothy Florence, Linda Ann, and Michael — and carried that big-sister role with love her whole life.
Virginia attended San Francisco University, where she joined the sorority Delta Sigma Theta and formed lifelong friendships.
Virginia lived a life of service. She worked as a school teacher, served as an investigator with the U.S. Postal Service, and in her retirement, returned to what she loved most, teaching elementary school. She was passionate about inspiring the minds of young people and helping those who are our most vulnerable in society.
Virginia was a wonderfully giving aunt — giving to her family, to her friends, and giving good advice whenever you needed it. She was funny, energetic, and truly loved to live life. She loved to travel, especially if it involved cruise ships and going to the casino not just to try her luck at the slot machines but also to redeem her "reward points" for free fancy dinners and gifts.
She was also a huge collector of African American art and memorabilia from her childhood that she proudly displayed around her home. Christmas held a very special place in her heart - she loved to collect ornaments, figurines, dolls, etc. and had a working train on display year-round that she showcased in her Christmas room -- yes, an entire room dedicated to Christmas that she kept up all year long!
She never married or had children, but she was a mother-figure to many of her nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with great friends and great loves throughout her life.
She will be cremated, and there will be no formal service, per her wishes.
Virginia was a wonderful, wonderful person. She will be deeply missed and always remembered for her laughter, her wisdom, her generosity, and her zest for life.
She is survived by her siblings Dorothy Florence McCrea, Michael Johnson, her brother-in-law Exzelia McCrea and numerous nieces and nephews across the country.
Please feel free to share a memory or story of Virginia Rose below in her honor.
With love,
The Family of Virginia Rose Johnson
