In Loving Memory of

Rafael Esquilo Perez, MD

October 26, 1930 to October 27, 2023

Rafael E. Perez, MD passed away on October 27, 2023 one day after his 93rd birthday, surrounded by family, friends, and his devoted caregivers at Aegis Living of Las Vegas, NV.

Rafael was born in the Dominican Republic on October 26, 1930 in the city of La Vega. He went on to serve as a physician in his home country’s capital city Santo Domingo before coming to the United States to further his knowledge and education.

Rafael completed his U. S. medical education at New York Medical College, upon which he stayed in New York practicing medicine and later married. Shortly after his marriage, the family moved across the country to California. There, Rafael began his private practice in Santa Monica where he used his bilingual skills and medical knowledge to serve the local community. Rafael became a beloved general practitioner who served patients for nearly 40 years before deciding to spend his well earned retirement in Las Vegas, NV.

While Rafael was a man of medicine, his true passions lay in the arts. Rafael loved nothing more than to travel the world and experience the music, art, and theater of other places and cultures. His children each hold fond memories of such travels where their father imparted his love and patronage of the arts on them as well.

In his Los Angeles community, Rafael was known to be the life of the party. He is remembered as a gracious host to a myriad of friends and artists who recall his love for the beautiful things in life, his penchant for a good story, as well as his kind hearted generosity and true zest for life.

The last 20 years of Rafael’s life were spent in Las Vegas where he could be near his daughter Maria, dear friends, and loving caregivers at Aegis Living. Rafael was truly loved by all who got the privilege to know him and already sorely missed. He will be remembered most for his unconditional love, dedication to his passions, and strength in adversity. This earth is truly a lesser place without his light.

Rafael is survived by his three children; Maria L. Perez of Las Vegas, NV; Daniela (& John) Fayer of Arlington, VA; Vincent (& Julie) Perez-Mazzola of Scottsdale, AZ; and his two granddaughters, Julia Fayer and Isabel Fayer of Arlington, VA.
