Robert J. Virginia
Robert J. Virginia 84, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away April 4, 2017. Born March 22, 1933 in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of Frank Virginia and Mary La Penna and the youngest of seven children.
After graduating from Bennett High School he served in the US Air Force from 1954-1957, stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, Bangor, Maine and Iceland.
He worked at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (National Grid) in Buffalo and later in Syracuse, New York for 38 years as a Tax Accountant in the Property Records Department retiring to Las Vegas in 1990.
While working in Buffalo, he met the love of his life, Patty Ann Hyde, with whom he would spend the next 47 years. His life with Patty was always filled with adventure, high energy and the thrill of the moment.
His friends referred to him as “Bobby V in The Bike” for his avid love of thoroughbred horse racing. He took great delight in “handicapping” horse races to the fullest.
Robert marched to the beat of a different drum, holding nothing back and provided an element of color, authenticity and spirit to those he touched. He was an avid reader and could discuss and debate anything from sports to politics. He was a strong willed man with many convictions and deeply devoted to those he loved. His quick wit, sharp mind and zeal for life made him the center of all he participated in.
He is survived by his devoted wife Patty, two sons from his previous marriage with Virginia Virginia, Robert (Las Vegas) and Gregory (Cassandra) and grandchildren Matthew and Meghan (Liverpool, New York), sister Delores D’Agostino (Buffalo, NY) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by siblings Frank, Thomas, Ralph, Madelaine Castellani, Pauline Derme and daughter-in-law Dianne.
As per Robert’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A Celebration of Life memorial will take place in Las Vegas and New York at a later date.
