Rosita B. Horario
Rosita B. Horario, 74, passed away peacefully at the Desert Hills Acute & Rehabilitation Hospice in Las Vegas on February 19, 2019. A non-smoker, she battled Stage 4 non-small cell carcinoma (lung cancer) for 2-years before succumbing to the dreadful disease. The final hours of her life were filled with hugs, kisses, and music. She breathed her last with “The Memory of Trees” by Enya playing softly.
Born in the Philippines in 1944, she was well loved for her warm heart, loving personality and ability to make those around her laugh and smile. She put everyone at ease and had friends from all walks of life.
Ms. Horario left the Philippines in 1993 to join her daughter and family at Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan while her son-in-law served in the Marine Corps. She worked as a bagger at the Camp Kinser Commissary where her charm made her popular and endeared her to many of the Marines, local nationals and fellow employees.
Moving to the US in 1996, she enjoyed the snow of Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska but preferred the warmer weather and closeness of her other family members, so she moved to Las Vegas to make her home. She was a long time, faithful and well-loved employee at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall where she worked as a porter.
Ms. Horario loved to travel and spend time with her friends. She enjoyed playing bingo and the slot machines at Sam’s Town. She was a tremendous cook and loved to cook for her family and friends. She was also well known for having friends at many of the best buffets in Las Vegas where she seemed to know everyone.
Ms. Horario became a proud US citizen in 2008.
Ms. Horario was preceded in death by her husband, Revocato; Mother; Conrada Selig; Sisters, Lynn and Elsie. She is survived by daughters Rosephine, Rizalyn, Reigy and her son, Ralph. She also has numerous grandchildren whom she loved dearly including Martyn, Kimberly, and Kristian.
The family extends our thanks to the nurses and staff at The Heights of Sumerlin who treated Mom for pneumonia. They were very attentive and caring and we’re very appreciative of their efforts.
The family would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Desert Hills Acute & Rehabilitation facility. We are eternally grateful for the manner in which they tended to Ms. Horario, especially as it became clear that she would lose her battle with cancer. We recognize that she touched the staff as these are people who deal with death and dying daily, yet they teared up and cried when heard that she had passed away. She was that kind of person who touched many with her love, caring attitude and concern for the well-being of others.
We are grateful for her personal nurse, Tess Sevilla and for the Hospice Coordinator, Ms. Esther Kim. Both were brilliant and so caring. Their attentiveness, compassion, attention to detail and devotion were unexpected but deeply moving. Their support enabled the family to prepare emotionally and know what to expect on this journey. While healthcare in our country certainly has challenges, both people exemplify what healthcare should be about.
Though our hearts are broken, we are comforted in knowing that Mom is now at peace. We hold her hugs, kisses and smiles in our hearts and her infectious laugh fills our memories.
Family, friends and others who are interested will be able to pay their final respects at a Celebration of Life Mass to be held at 11:00 AM on March 15, 2019 at the St. Therese Mission Cemetery located at 881 E. Old Spanish Trail Tecopa, CA 92389. Inurnment to follow immediately after the Mass.
