Gary was born in Pomona, California on Oct. 24, 1943. His parents were Sherman Mullins Sr. and Agnes Mae Mullins (Hill) who have passed away. He served in the military, Army from 1962 – 1974. He fought in 1967-1969 in Viet Nam. In conflict of Saigon in Tet 68. He and his troops received the Valorous Unit Award for extraordinary heroism in action against an armored enemy of the USA. Each individual of the 199th Infantry Brigade warranted an award of the Silver Star Medal. He was a fighter and he fought to the end to live life to the fullest.
Being an honest man, he also taught his children to be honest and stressed the importance & value of family. He believed we should “Take care of each other and stay in school to graduate. It’s important & do your best.”
He was a man who never asked for nothing except don’t argue but love one another. His greatest joy was his children & grandchildren. He’d taught them how to love, to climb the highest mountain in Lovelock, how to shoot, killing nothing unless you ate it, drinking, having patience and believe in your dream. Don’t be angry at yourself about your mistakes in life. Everyone makes mistakes in life. Life is what you make it. He bought a ranch in Winnemucca where he spent the last 10 years happy. Enjoying his horses, grandkid’s visits and children. He died in peace at Renown Medical Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Roberta F. Mullins, daughter Teresa R. Mitchell (Kenneth), daughter Cynthia M. Ferns (Ty), adopted son Jeremy Hickson (Crysti), adopted daughter Sherry Horton (Robert), adopted son Donald Perry, grandchildren Sarah Reali, Mark Reali Jr., Jonathan Reali and Branden Ferns, Elijah Duff, Naiomi Mitchell, Khloe Mitchell, sister Rhonda Grimes, sister Sandy King. Predeceased family members are daughter Tina R. Mullins and son Gary Lee Mullins.
